Advance Monroe

Monroe, Ohio Comprehensive Plan Update

Community Survey

The City of Monroe, along with consultant Rundell Ernstberger Associates, is in the process of updating its Comprehensive Plan. The current Comprehensive Plan was created in 2010 and since then, the City has seen significant growth. The purpose of the Comprehensive Plan is to guide Monroe’s Council, Plan Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, Park and Recreation Board, and staff regarding the type, location, and intensity of development and redevelopment in the City. Multiple steering committee meetings, along with stakeholder meetings and public engagement opportunities have already taken place.

As part of this process, public and stakeholder input is necessary and vital in order to focus on areas of more detailed analysis and develop appropriate recommendations. As such, City staff is asking for participation in a community survey.

There will be five total surveys in this series. Each survey will be informal and relate to development types, development styles, and quality of life aspects and amenities. Each question is focused on ONE picture which you will rate on how appealing it is to you. All surveys need to be completed by February 7, 2020.

If you have any questions about this survey, please contact Kameryn Jones at jonesk@monroeohio.org or Catherine Kazmierczak at ckazmierczak@reasite.com.

About the Plan

The City of Monroe, in partnership with Rundell Ernstberger Associates, has begun a process to update the City’s Comprehensive Plan.  This planning process will outline a vision and strategic framework for future development, redevelopment, and community capital projects within the City.  It will also ensure that Monroe continues to maintain a high quality of life for residents and is competitive economically.  The current comprehensive plan was created in 2010 and since then, the City has seen significant growth. Concurrently, other adjacent governments have updated or are in the process of updating their Comprehensive Plans.  Given all the present opportunities and growth that has occurred in Monroe, a new comprehensive plan is needed.

The purpose of the Comprehensive Plan is to guide Monroe’s Council, Plan Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, Park and Recreation Board, and staff regarding the type, location, and intensity of development and redevelopment in the City.  It will describe an aspirational vision and contain several goals and recommendations related to future land use, transportation improvements, quality of life initiatives, and economic development efforts; implementation policies; and project priorities. As part of this plan, a couple of subareas will be selected for more detail analysis and recommendations.
