In visiting the Tipton community, it is readily apparent the downtown is valued and embraced. Unlike many communities of similar size, downtown Tipton has many benefits including being a county seat; a great historical building stock; a high occupancy rate; a compact, walkable layout with easy access to surrounding neighborhoods, parks, and schools; been able to retain staple businesses such as the hardware store, grocery, and theater; visibility and access to major State routes such as SR 28 and SR 19; close proximity to Indianapolis and Hamilton County; and much more. Bottom line, the Tipton community has an excellent foundation to work from! This revitalization plan can, and should, help take Tipton to the next level by building off of these existing assets to provide strategies that retain and attract new business, visitors, and families to live, work, and play in Tipton.
The focus of this effort is to identify physical projects and financial strategies that will aid the community in supporting existing downtown patrons, businesses, and residents, and encourage compatible improvements into the future. It will also ensure that the downtown maintains a high quality of life for residents and is competitive from an economic development standpoint. Tipton was awarded a planning grant from the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA) to complete the Downtown Revitalization Plan and have used it to retain the services of Rundell Ernstberger Associates (REA) to provide facilitation and technical guidance throughout this process.
